ITINERARY
DAY 1, September 04, 2020 | London
London

Upon arrival at Heathrow Airport, you will be met and transferred privately to your centrally located hotel. After lunch independently, you are invited to join a leisurely walking tour. Visit Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, a traditional site of public speaking, debates, protests, and demonstrations since the mid-19th century. Continue into fashionable Mayfair to Grosvenor Square where you’ll see the former US Embassy building and the Roosevelt Memorial. Enjoy traditional British cuisine at the nearby Grazing Goat gastropub this evening.

DAY 2, September 05, 2020 | London
London

Begin the day with a visit to the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Hall, which is nearly 1,000 years old. Afterwards, walk along Whitehall past Downing Street for lunch at the Red Lion, a popular haunt of politicians. Later, from Westminster Pier talk a short public boat cruise on the Thames, disembarking at Tower Pier for a visit to the Tower of London, a historic castle built by William the Conqueror in 1078. Used as a royal residence and a prison (the Deputy Führer Rudolf Hess was briefly imprisoned here), it is home to the dazzling Crown Jewels. Drive back to the hotel at the end of the afternoon and spend the evening at leisure.

DAY 3, September 06, 2020 | London - Portsmouth - Normandy
London - Portsmouth - Normandy

After breakfast, depart from London and head southwest to Portsmouth, which has long been an important naval base. Visit The D-Day Story, a museum that houses the magnificent Overload Embroidery, commissioned to remember those who participated in the D-Day Landings and the Battle of Normandy. Later, board your ferry and depart across the Channel to Caen (Ouistreham). Dine at leisure aboard the ferry before disembarking at around 9:30pm and transferring privately to your hotel.

DAY 4, September 07, 2020 | D-Day Beaches
D-Day Beaches

Today will be dedicated to visiting some of the principal sites associated with the D-Day landings. The day begins with a visit to the German cemetery at La Cambe before proceeding to Utah Beach, the western-most of the D-Day beaches and vital to the seizure of the Cotentin Peninsula with its major port, Cherbourg. Proceed to La Fière Bridge, the scene of fierce fighting between June 6th and 9th. Next, arrive in Sainte-Mère Église where, early in the morning of June 6th, 1944, the 82nd Airborne Division’s parachute assault heralded the beginning of operations. Afterwards, we visit Utah Beach before driving to Pointe du Hoc, famously stormed that fateful morning by the men of Lt. Col. James Rudder’s 2nd Ranger Battalion. Lunch today will be at the Hotel du Casino, overlooking Dog Green Beach before visiting Omaha Beach and the nearby American Cemetery and Memorial at Colleville-sur-Mer, where 9,385 marble tombstones commemorate the fallen. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place. Travel this evening to Arromanches to see the remains of one of the Mulberry Harbors just a few hundred yards from shore. These miraculous feats of engineering played a vital role in the Normandy campaign.

DAY 5, September 08, 2020 | Mont-St. Michel

Travel south this morning to Avranches to learn about Operation Cobra and visit the General Patton Memorial. About 5 miles south lies the Pontaubault Bridge, crossed by Patton’s VIII Corps on August 1st, 1944. Arrive later that morning at Mont-Saint-Michel where the abbey, a monastic site for over 1,000 years, is perched on a 264-ft rock near the coast. It was a major pilgrimage center during the Middle Ages and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After lunch enjoy a guided visit to the abbey church. Arrive back in Bayeux to visit the Bayeux Tapestry, an impressive 225-ft embroidered scroll, which tells the epic tale of William the Conqueror’s invasion of England in 1066. Afterwards, enjoy dinner at a nearby restaurant.

DAY 6, September 09, 2020 | Normandy – Giverny – Paris

After breakfast, travel east and visit Monet’s Gardens at Giverny. Afterwards, enjoy lunch at Les Bords de Seine in La Roche-Guyon (nearby Château La Roche-Guyon became the headquarters in 1944 of Field-Marshal Rommel). Continue to Paris where your hotel is located just yards from the Louvre. Enjoy dinner tonight at L’Absinthe, just a short walk from your hotel.

DAY 7, September 10, 2020 | Paris

Follow your expert guide on a tour covering many of the classic sights of Paris. Start at the Arc de Triomphe, behold Saint-Chapelle with its lovely stained-glass windows, and then see the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, which recently suffered a catastrophic fire. Afterwards, you will see the Shoah Memorial before lunch at a riverside restaurant with impressive views of the Eiffel Tower. Later, visit the elegant H?tel Biron, home to the Musée Rodin. This museum reopened in 2015 after having undergone an extensive €16 million renovation. After visiting the two floors, continue your visit outside in the lovely sculpture garden, which covers 7 acres and includes masterpieces such as The Burghers of Calais and The Gates of Hell. The afternoon concludes with a visit to the nearby Dome church which contains Napoleon’s tomb.

DAY 8, September 11, 2020 | Versailles

After breakfast, travel to the nearby Chateau de Versailles, the vast palace that was constructed in the seventeenth century for Louis XIV, the 'Sun King'. Housing up to 4,000 people, the palace was the glory of his reign and the epicenter of political power in France at the time. It became the model for grand houses all over Europe. During your tour, explore the complex of rooms and apartments that make up this extraordinary palace. Marvel at the opulent Grand Apartments and its collection of seven prestigious and lavishly decorated rooms, all named after Roman Gods, which served as a parade apartment for the King's official acts. The tour ends in the extraordinary Hall of Mirrors. This evening enjoy a farewell dinner at a restaurant within walking distance of your hotel.

In arranging for transportation or conveyance, hotel accommodations, or other services and in carrying out the program, neither the sponsors nor their agents shall be responsible or liable for any loss, cost, damage, injury, delay, irregularity, or expense of any kind whatsoever arising from the use of any conveyance, accommodations, or services, or from thefts, pilferage, government restrictions, or regulations and any loss or expense resulting from the above contingencies shall be borne by the participant. Neither the sponsors nor the agents shall be responsible or liable for any loss, injury, damage, or expense suffered or incurred by the participant in respect of any acts, or omissions of any third parties, the participant hereby expressly waiving any such responsibility or liability, and services are subject to the laws of the countries visited. People to People International shall not be responsible in any way for loss or damage to baggage or personal effects.
