After your arrival in Bogota you will have a meeting with the group and guide, who will explain you the itinerary for the following days.

Private transfer from El Dorado International Airport in Bogota to your hotel with English speaking guide. You will spend the night at Hotel NH Royal Andino.

The area of modern Bogotá was first populated by groups of indigenous people that migrated from Mesoamerica. Among these groups were the Muiscas that settled in what are now mainly the Departments of Cundinamarca and Boyacá. With the arrival of the Spanish colonizers the area became a major settlement, founded by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada and later capital of the Spanish provinces and the seat of the Viceroyalty of New Granada. With independence Bogotá became capital of the Gran Colombia and later the capital of the Republic of Colombia. Located at 2.600 meters M.S.L. Bogotá is a big city with over 8 million people that has 2 different faces for tourism. The old Candelaria Historic District is blessed with colonial houses and very close to government buildings and the modern Bogotá to the north where tourists wil find all sort of shops, restaurant and bars surrounded by brick constructions all over.

Today you get to know the Colombian capital Bogotá in a 8-hour walking tour with an English speaking guide. On of the highlights is the visit of the mountain "Monserrate" by cable car, from where you have an amazing view over the impressive city. Then you will get to know Bogota's historical center called "La Candelaria" and its impressive churches, the Governmental palace and the main square "Plaza Bolívar". Furthermore, you will visit different museums in the city center: The world famous Gold museum "Museo del Oro" (closed on mondays), the Emerald museum (closed on sundays) and the museum of the famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero.

Bogotá is an inspiring city which has something new to explore every single day. 2010 the capital was chosen as a must see destination by the renowned daily newspaper New York Times. Experience a city with art, culture, recreation, sport and science. For hotels located in downtown Bogotá, this will be a complete walking tour. For hotels located in the north of Bogotá, transportation will be provided.

Entrance fees and lunch is included. The city tour is accompanied by an English speaking guide.

Afterwards you are going to visit the local chapter of People to People in Bogota, transportation is included.

DAY 01, December 08, 2019 | Pereira

In the morning you will be driven from your Hotel to the town of Zipaquirá to visit an underground Salt Mine that has a Cathedral inside. Walking inside the Salt Cathedral is a very special experience with a catholic taste due to the country´s traditions and the miner’s devotion for The Holy Virgin of Guasca who protects them. Once at the bottom of the Cathedral you will see the 3 sections and the big cross in the main one. A simple but complete movie will show you the dimensions of the mine as well as the history behind it. Get impressed by one of the biggest religious constructions worldwide!

A private transport brings you from Bogota to Zipaquirá, which has the only Cathedral of Salt in the country. It is a monumental building in an old salt mine. After spending the day in the unique setting of Zipaquira, you are driven back to the capital of Colombia, Bogota.

(Alternative Entrance fee to Salt Cathedral Nemocon instead of Entrance fee to Salt Cathedral) Today you will visit the salt mine of Nemocon. This adventure leads you 60 meter underneath the ground with shafts of a total length of 2.500 meters. Be amazed by impressive rock and salt formations, the mirror like lakes and fond of wishes. Furthermore you will visit the chapel “La Virgen del Carmen” and the heart of the Nemocon mine. On top of that you will be able to see the movie set of "La 33". This movie is about the mining tragedy taken place in Chile which was recorded in the salt mine Nemocon. Entrance fees and local guide included.

Valle del Cocora & Colonial Town of Salento

Today you will go on another tour visiting the colonial town of Salento and Valle del Cocora. The area of Salento will impress you with great scenery - led by the stunning nature of Valle del Cocora. Wax palms, which are among the highest in the world and can reach a height of up to 70 meters, will catch your attention. Enjoy a walk in this beautiful environment of Colombia's national tree. Besides you will visit the small town of Salento, in which you can explore the interesting and ancient architecture.

Coffee farm tour

Later you learn everything about the world of coffee. The entire process - from the bush until the finished cup of coffee during this unique tour you can experience this process on a coffee plantation first hand. Your coffee expert shares his whole knowledge of coffee with you and reveals some secrets of planting, harvesting, washing and drying the coffee. Get carried away by the smell and taste of one of the best.

DAY 01, December 10, 2019 | Medellin

Orchid Farm

This finca is famous for its orchids garden. During the orchid tour you will walk along the natural paths that cross the crops, native forests and water sources at the farm.

Once the walk around these trails is finished, the most vivid part of this tour begins: the guided tour to the orchid nursery and farmhouse. This unique experience will open your mind to the wonders of the agricultural production, and it´s is a great example of how it can go hand in hand with conservation and protection of native flora and fauna.

Colombia has the second most species of orchids in the world, therefore becoming a paradise for viewing and enjoying their beauty. Finca Romelia possesses one of the largest and varied private collections in the country, including approximately 200 genres and 400 species, with special attention to the native species.

With your tour you will have lunch included.

After your visit to the orchid farm, a private transfer from your hotel in Quindio area to the Pereira airport will be waiting for you.

Your will have a domestic flight from Pereira to Medellin (included).

Arriving in Medellin, you will be expected by a private transfer from the Enrique Olaya Herrera airport to your selected hotel in Medellin. With the transfer an english speaking driver is included.

Optional: Medellin Tango Tour

Explore the famous tango culture of Medellín and visit the tango hot spots of the city. Follow the footprints of Carlos Gardel who turned Medellín into the biggest tango metropolis outside of Argentina. Get to know the Tango Museum (Casa Gardel), the Gardel square as well as other Gardel monuments and memorials before entering a tango bar and enjoying a tango live show. Be impressed by that little known part of Colombian dance and music culture. Enjoy this perfect combination of culture and live-dance, and experience Medellín in a di?erent way. An english speaking guide will be included during the excursion.

Slightly more than 20 years ago, Medellin was one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Back in the early 90´s, hunting on Pablo Escobar, the head of Medellin's drug cartel was at its peak. Thus the reign of "El Patron" came to its end. Until the turn of the millennium the struggles about Escobar's successor continued, but since 2002 Medellin began to change. Intelligent local politicians started to invest heavily in infrastructure and public education - successfully. Today the "City of Eternal Spring" is one of the most innovative metropolises in the world. Join us on an exciting tour through the history and present of Medellin and learn more about the transformation of this fascinating metropolis.

English speaking guide and lunch are included.

After the city tour focused on the transformation of the city, you are going to visit a local orphanage or project. Lunch included.

Tonight you will have dinner in a local restaurant.

Flower Farm of Santa Elena

The small village of Santa Elena is located less than an hour outside of Medellín in the mountains of Antioquia (over 2000 m high). It is home to a great variety of traditional flower farmers. The flower arrangements of the Flower Festival (“Feria de Flores”), called “silletas”, have an impressive history and are today a cultural symbol of Medellín. On this tour we visit an organic flower farm and experience the traditional peasant culture of Santa Elena. An English speaking guide will accompany your and tell you more about the farm.

Afterwards, an English speaking driver will bring you with a private transfer from your selected hotel to the José Maria Córdova International Airport in Medellin. From here you keep traveling to the beautiful city Cartagena.

A delicious lunch in Medellin is included in the program.

City tour through the historical center.

During your walking tour through the old city of Cartagena you will pass the representing streets and squares of the colonial city. The Castillo San Felipe de Barajas is a fortress in the city of Cartagena, Colombia. The castle is located on the Hill of San Lázaro in a strategic location, dominating approaches to the city by land or sea. It was built by the Spanish during the colonial era. Construction began in the year 1536, and it was originally known as the Castillo de San Lázaro, It was expanded in 1657. Also you get to visit the church and the monastery of San Pedro Claver, the palace of inquisition, the church and barricade of Santo Domingo, Santiago and San Francisco Javier as well as other famous places. Enjoy strolling through charming, romantic alleys and admire impressive colonial buildings as well as the city wall and the castle of San Felipe de Barajas, which was built during Spanish colonial times. The Inquisition Palace and the historic clock tower also bear memories of old times which make them liven up again in current times. Besides enjoy the nice warm breeze and relax in one of the beautiful natural parks in Cartagena.

Optional: Rum Tasting

Rum is the most consumed alcoholic drink in Latin America and it´s obtained from a fermentation process of Sugar Cane that later can be put to an aging process, usually in wood barrels. During our rum tasting experience, we will learn about the different processes and its origin. We will taste different rums and learn to distinguish their taste and scents and also learn how to combine them with other soft drinks. The experience includes some snacks. The experience is 2 hours long and it takes place at Augua de Mar Tapas Gourmet & Gin Bar in the Walled City. Transport provided at an additional fee if clients are not staying in The Walled City.

Canoe Tour La Boquilla

After arriving in La Boquilla (about 30 minutes from the city center), you get on the canoe and cross the mangrove forest and the lagoon Cienaga de Juan Polo. Going through some natural mangrove tunnels (Tunnel of Friendship, Love and Luck). At the lagoon, you will see fishermen working. The perfect word for describing this gorgeous scenario is peace. The mangrove forest offers great flora and fauna. Among other things, you may see different species of birds and crabs and with a little luck, a coon or a green parrot may appear on the riverbanks. After the canoe tour, you receive a cold coconut. Then, you take a walk through the village and along the beach whereas the English- speaking guide tells you more about the daily life of the people that live mainly of fishing. Hereafter, you can enjoy your included lunch.

Free Day

A day of leisure in Cartagena to enjoy all the beauties of the city. Some interesting places where you could go are the Walled City, or San Felipe Fortressa, built by the Spaniards in the Colony period, located in the historical center of Cartagena. There you can also find the most amazing colonial architecture, and some attractions like The Museo de Arte Moderno, The Palacio de la Inquisicion, The Plaza de los Coches and more.

Tonight you will have farewell dinner in a local restaurant.

You will spend the night at Hotel Capellan de Getsemani.

DAY 01, December 15, 2019 | Cartagena

o For your departure flight we ask that you please purchase your multi-city airfare on your preferred airline carrier departing Friday, December 6th from your closest international airport and arriving to Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport on an evening flight.

o For your return flight we ask that you please purchase your multi-city airfare on your preferred airline carrier departing Sunday, December 15th from Cartagena’s Rafael Nunez International Airport on an afternoon flight.

Should any person’s health, physical infirmity, or general deportment, in the judgment of the delegation leader, impede the operation of the program or the rights, welfare, or enjoyment of other participants, the leader has the right to terminate that person(s) participation, and a refund of unused services, where such refund can be obtained from land operators, is the limit of the sponsor’s responsibility should such person be required to depart the program. In arranging for transportation or conveyance, hotel accommodations, or other services and in carrying out the program, neither the sponsors nor their agents shall be responsible or liable for any loss, cost, damage, injury, delay, irregularity, or expense of any kind whatsoever arising from the use of any conveyance, accommodations, or services, or from thefts, pilferage, government restrictions, or regulations and any loss or expense resulting from the above contingencies shall be borne by the participant. Neither the sponsors nor the agents shall be responsible or liable for any loss, injury, damage, or expense suffered or incurred by the participant in respect of any acts, or omissions of any third parties, the participant hereby expressly waiving any such responsibility or liability, and services are subject to the laws of the countries visited. People to People International shall not be responsible in any way for loss or damage to baggage or personal effects. If the program must be canceled prior to travel, the liability of People to People International or its agents is limited to refund of monies received by People to People International or its agents for delegates currently registered. The sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to withdraw the program (in which case a refund will be made) or to make such alterations in the schedule as they may deem necessary or desirable. No refund shall be made for services not taken in case of sickness, accident, or emergency resulting in omission of service for less than three consecutive days.
